Reflection Sheet
1. How does this assignment relate to the standard.
The standard 8.VA.2.6 was to design & create both additive & subtraction on a sculpture. This assignment relates to the standard because on my mask, in order to make it look like a realistic Greek God I had to add scraps of paper onto the paper mache & glued them down to where I wanted the nose to be located at. That is considered additive because I'm adding onto the mask. To add a mouth I had to cut through the mask the places where I needed the mouth. That is subtracting away from the mask.
2. What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
For our project, Ms. Kohl provided us with a balloon for every 2 people and to do the simple task of inflating the balloon and covering it with strips of paper. We used a liquid glue to stick the strips of long paper. To get the balloon perfectly well covered, we had to glue them on 3 different ways, in layers. The first layer consisted of the paper going horizontal. I had a difficult time with that because the paper kept ripping and crumpling. After that I layered it vertically and then diagonally. The process was the same and it was also very quick. We let the balloon dry & waited for the next day. We cut the tip of the balloon and then we cut the balloon into 2 different parts, one for me and one for my partner & that was the paper mach e part of the work. There on we had to create the mask according to a Greek God. I added a nose & subtracted a mouth. Then I used construction paper to create the eyes & the flames for hair. The next day I painted my mask. I painted the face & it ended up looking completely different then expected.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
This assignment demonstrates that I have the skill of researching ahead of time about a Greek God. I am not very familiar to those Gods so I went home the day she old us about the project & researched the different Gods. I chose Hades because I knew a little more about him than any of the other Greek Gods because my brother likes the Hercules movie character very much.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by....
I could improved on my timing. I was way behind m work my because I kept talking to my peers. As a result, I rushed through my projects and I made my mask on the wrong side. I made it horizontally instead of vertically. I can improve this by learning to multi-task or to practice ignoring conversations when I should have my attention engaged over time. That will help me do better on future projects.
5. How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in either the world when you are an adult?
I can use these skills when I am an adult by making pinatas instead of having to buy them. You can make pinatas using paper mach e skills I learned and the additive and subtractive skills too. I can make them for fun and sell them off too people or use them for my siblings' birthdays. I have seen and had experience making pinatas with balloons and the paper mach e skills but know that I know how to do additive and subtractive, I can add a face of sort onto the pinata creating a human face or an animated face. Even a meme type of face.
