REFLECTION SHEET
1. How does this relate to the standard?
The standard for this assignment is RL7.2. That is to
2. What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
I first had to find all the materials needed to make a sculpture of Panchito. Once I actually had the materials, I could start building it. I was going to make him out of wood but the wood seemed to hard to bend so I used corn husks instead. The corn husks are easier to bend due to the flexibility they have which is easier to use. For the arms, I used a different material. I used toilet paper rolls to crate the arms. In order to make the arms skinny, i had to get one toilet paper roll & cut it in half. Then I took one half and folded it into the format of a brochure. Once I had the arms, I asked my father to use hot glue to stick it on the corn husks. After the arms were done, I did the same steps as I did on his arms, I also did them in his legs. Then when the legs were done, I started to make clothing. I actually felt excited to make his clothes because when I was younger my grandmother tough me how to sew using a machine and how to manually sew. But unfortunately my statue of Panchito broke while I was sewing. He was broken into 3 parts. I thought he was dead once in for all. Luckily my mum was around so she did me the favour of putting it back together. By the time is was alive again, his clothes was ready & all I needed to do know was sew it on him. It took me a while to get it done because I didn't want to stick the needle in the wrong places & get it stuck there. After making his clothes, I got a pale coloured piece of cloth for his face. I slowly put the piece of cloth on the machine & started making his face. To be honest I thought making his face was going to be easier than what it was. I re did his face 6 times because it was all deformed the other 5 times. When his face was done, I used crazy glue to glue it on the head. Then to add the hair, I got a black piece of cloth & glued it on the back of his head. Now I was finished until I realized he didn't have a hat. I had no idea how to make a hat & I wanted to use the wood I didn't use. At that point I felt like all I could do was google it. So I did & found a cool way to do it. Like doing his face, the hat always came out wrong. I spent 2 days making hats & by the time I was gonna give up, the hat came out great. I quickly hot glued it to his head & saw he looked good. But then I decided to add a few details so I made him a belt using thread & I also made him a scarf.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths…
This assignment demonstrates that I can make a sculpture about a certain person using my mind's creativity. It also shows that I am responsible and I turn things in on time. Besides those other 2 reasons, it also shows that I can make a sculpture for my class.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by …
I could have put more effort by using my time efficiently because I was very distracted while doing it because since it was when we were in our break, I wanted to do other things and leave the project for later. I could have also done this project earlier because there were things I didn't get to do on it because of lack of time.
5. How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in either the real world when you are an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
I can apply the skill of creativity in all my other classes because at one point or another they ask you to make projects. Especially in VPA since creativity is one of the things you need when you are either making ceramics, or any type of abstract art. I could also apply the skill of creativity in a job. For example, I want to be an automotive engineer and create cars because I really like cars & I've always said I want to be an automotive engineer for as long as I can remember. And I believe that automotive engineers need to have creativity.
